Can ChatGPT export a conversation as a PDF?

No OpenAI help page describes saving an ordinary ChatGPT conversation as a PDF. The reliable way to save a full ChatGPT conversation as a PDF is to print the page from your computer's browser.

1. Open the print window. In Chrome on a computer, click File, then Print, or press Ctrl + P (Windows) or Cmd + P (Mac).
2. Select your PDF option. In Chrome, next to Destination, select Save as PDF. On a Mac (Safari, Chrome or any app), click File, then Print, then click the PDF button (or its menu) and choose Save as PDF; on Windows 10 and 11, choose Microsoft Print to PDF as the printer.

For finished outputs, ChatGPT exports specific formats directly. Deep research reports can be downloaded as Markdown, Word or PDF (click the share icon, then Download as PDF) for new and past reports, including tables, images, linked citations and sources, though deep research usage varies by plan. Exporting the finished report looks cleaner for a client than printing all your prompts. How do you save a ChatGPT chat as a PDF on iPhone or Android?

To save a ChatGPT chat as a PDF on a phone, open the conversation in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android. In the ChatGPT mobile app, tapping Share opens the phone's share sheet, and shared links (which start with https://chatgpt.com/share/ and show the conversation as it was when created or updated) can be managed in Settings, then Data controls, then Shared links.

Claude can create Excel, PowerPoint, Word and PDF files when you ask, on all plans (Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise), on the web, Claude Desktop and the mobile apps. It needs "Code execution and file creation", which is on by default for Free, Pro, Max and Team under Settings, then Capabilities:

You can download the files or save them to Google Drive, up to 30 MB per file (on the mobile apps, tapping Download opens the file in the phone's preview or another app). On Free, Pro and Max, conversations that include files made with that feature cannot be shared by public link, whereas ordinary public chat links let anyone with the link open a view-only snapshot without a Claude account (attached files are not included).

For Claude artifacts, open the artifact and click Export: docs export to Word, PDF, Markdown and Google Docs; decks export to PowerPoint and PDF, or to Google Slides; and designs export as a .zip, PDF, PowerPoint or standalone HTML. A short report is easier to read than a printout of every prompt.

How do you save a Gemini chat as a PDF?

Gemini does not document a button that saves an entire conversation as a PDF, so print the page to PDF for the whole thread. To save a single reply, export the response to Google Docs and download it as a PDF.

1. Export the response to Google Docs. Below the response, select Share & export, then Export to Docs (on a phone the menu may be Share & export or More) to save a new document in Google Drive when signed in; on work accounts the options depend on Workspace settings.
2. Download as a PDF in Google Docs. In Google Docs on a computer, click File, then Download, then PDF Document (.pdf).

For Deep Research reports, go to the Canvas panel and select Share & export, then Export to Docs. Canvas also exports text to Docs, slides to Slides (which can be exported as a PDF), and documents with LaTeX as a PDF with a preview.

How do you save a Copilot chat as a PDF?

Microsoft Copilot does not document a button that saves a full chat as a PDF, so print the page to PDF if you want the full thread. To export a single Copilot response as a PDF, move it into a Copilot Page first.

1. Turn the response into a Copilot Page. Below the response, select the ellipsis (...), then Edit in Pages, or select the pencil button below the response.
2. Export the Copilot Page. In the upper right of the page, select Create, then PDF, or to edit in Word first, select Create, then Document, then Open Word.

Copilot Pages are available for work or school accounts with SharePoint or OneDrive storage (including without a Copilot license) and for Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, Premium and Pro subscribers. For Copilot shared links, recipients must sign in before viewing shared content.

What about the full data export?

Every major AI assistant has a full account data export, but a full data export is an account backup, not a readable PDF.

In ChatGPT, go to Settings, then Data controls, then Export data, then Export, then Confirm export (available on Free, Go, Plus, Pro and eligible Edu workspaces, not on Business or Enterprise; in the iPhone app, OpenAI says to export from ChatGPT on the web). ChatGPT emails or texts a link within up to 7 days (expiring 24 hours after you receive it) to a ZIP file of your chat history and account data with conversations in conversations.json.

In Claude on the web app or Claude Desktop (not the iPhone or Android app), go to Settings, then Privacy, then Export data; Claude emails a download link that expires 24 hours after delivery. Google Takeout for Gemini Apps emails a link (active for 7 days) to a .zip or .tgz archive, and exporting Copilot activity history from Microsoft's privacy dashboard downloads a CSV file.

Are ChatGPT to PDF extensions safe?

Be careful with third-party PDF extensions and online converters at work. A browser extension that exports chats has to be able to read the chat page, and an online converter receives whatever text, link or screenshots you give it. Because AI output can repeat names, numbers or details you did not mean to share, check what an extension can read and where it sends data before installing one, and do not paste a work chat into a converter you do not trust. Chrome, Safari and Windows' built-in Microsoft Print to PDF can already save a chat page as a PDF on your device.

When is a link better than a PDF?

A PDF is a fixed snapshot, which is the right format for a record, an attachment or a signed-off version. A link is better when people need to comment on the work or you will update it, though a shared chat link can be forwarded and opens for anyone with the link on personal ChatGPT, Claude (Free, Pro and Max) and Gemini.
