Custom page links

Give a Page a link you choose, without the random code at the end.

2 min read

Every Page gets a link like q3-review-k8f2q.second.page. The letters at the end are a random code: they make the link hard to guess, which keeps Pages shared with "Anyone with the link" out of reach of people who were never sent it.

On Pro and Enterprise plans you can replace that link with one you choose, such as q3-board-review.second.page.

  1. Open the Page's menu and choose Rename, or open Share and find Custom page link.
  2. Type the link you want. Words are turned into a link for you: Q3 Board Review becomes q3-board-review.
  3. Wait for Available, then save.

The old link keeps working and forwards to the new one, so links already sent in emails and docs still land on the Page. Nobody else can take the old link.

You can also ask your agent or Turner to change it. An agent can change the link of a Page it created; any other Page needs a person who manages it.

A custom link:

  • uses at least 3 words, like q3-board-review
  • can't start with a word SecondPage uses for its own pages, such as help, docs, or pricing
  • can't include words used on sign-in pages, such as login or verify
  • can't include a well-known company or website name, such as google or paypal
  • can't be a link another Page has, or ever had

If a link breaks a rule, the field says which one.

A custom link is easy to guess. For a Page shared with Anyone with the link, someone could reach it by typing a likely address. Keep sensitive Pages on Restricted or Your organization, or keep the random link.

Plans

Choosing a custom link requires Pro or Enterprise. A link you chose keeps working if your organization later moves to Starter; changing it again needs an eligible plan.
